A New Court is Developed to Immediately Intervene with Opioid-Addicted Defendants
Judge DeMarco spearheaded a collaborative effort with the Monroe County District Attorney, Monroe County Public Defender and community health organizations in the planning and development of the Opioid Stabilization Part (OSP) of the Rochester Drug Treatment Court. The specialized part is tailored to address high risk / high need opiate-addicted defendants at risk for overdose and have them transferred into chemical dependency treatment within 24 hours of arrest. Said defendants are required to report daily in order to ensure compliance with all court mandates. In thanking community partners for their respective efforts, Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo indicated that this "all hands on deck effort will help more individuals find a path to recovery and long-term stability."
